Position Purpose

Virtual Arkansas facilitator will play a vital role in facilitating and maintaining a virtual program that is effective, smooth, and that will support the realization of the planned learning outcomes. Under the supervision of the Principal, the facilitator will serve as a key contributor in our digital learning classes, and serve as the in-person support for scholars. This position will primarily oversee the virtual learning support component for ARLCS.

 

Safety Coordinator

Under general direction of the Principal, the Safety Coordinator will provide a safe and secure school environment, foster an optimal learning environment and act as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by patrolling the campus, monitoring scholars behavior, enforcing school and district policies, intervening in physical encounters, monitoring security cameras, monitoring visitors and reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Patrol and monitor assigned school campuses on various shifts, to provide security and protection to scholars, personnel, equipment and property; maintain campus security and protect district property against vandalism, illegal entry, fire and theft; enforce laws and regulations and respond to emergency situations.

 

Essential Functions

 

Virtual Arkansas Facilitator

The ARLCS facilitator will create and maintain a safe and supportive distance learning environment for all scholars. In cooperation with the building level leaders and teachers, identify participants in need of additional support and provide one on one and small group support as needed.  The facilitator will ensure scholars have access to the resources and materials needed to fully participate in virtual learning. This will include preparation of the physical learning space, regular review of necessary resources for individual scholars. Communication with  families, teachers, administrators, and other ARLCS staff as needed to support scholar safety, learning, and well-being is key. Our facilitator will also participate in specific staff meetings, supervision/coaching meetings and professional development opportunities as part of the ARLCS team.

 

School Safety Coordinator

Supervise and monitor the campus(es) and surrounding areas and unsupervised places to ensure the safety and well-being of scholars, staff and the security of the facility.  Display ethical and professional behavior in working with scholars, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.  Promote scholars responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and example to ARLCS mission, vision and core values.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist scholars
  • Monitor academic progress and scholars behavior in the physical classroom as well as in the virtual classroom
  • Communicate on a day-to-day basis with the Virtual Arkansas teachers
  • Familiarize themselves with the learning management system each school day to view announcements and track assignments
  • Assist scholars with minor technology issues
  • Ensure that scholars remain on task and on pace
  • Ensure the integrity of scholars’ work
  • Support the teachers
  • Take attendance and send absentee reports to teachers and school staff daily
  • Provide scholars with training on the use of emails, attaching documents to emails, and accessing courses
  • Report technical issues to support center staff as well as to the school and/or system technology coordinator
  • Coordinate with the VA teachers, local administrators, to provide documentation of scholars’ grades for local school reporting purposes
 

School Safety Coordinator

  • Patrol and monitor the campus and surrounding areas and unsupervised places to ensure the safety and well-being of scholars, staff and the security of the facility.  
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with scholars, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.  
  • Promote scholars responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally.  
  • Intervene in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and direct scholars to refrain from such conduct.  
  • Ensure a smooth traffic flow of scholars through the hallways, assisting scholars with on time arrival to class and to assigned locations.  
  • Assist with supervision in the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of scholars.  
  • Remove disruptive scholars from classes when needed. 
  •  Assist the staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or disruptive situations. 
  • Intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits.  Report any discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the building administration.  
  • Notify the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous or unusual situations.  
  • Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances or anabolic steroids.  
  •  Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to security incidents, issues, hazards and activities; maintain time cards and officer’s log sheet.  
  • Communicate with district personnel and law enforcement, fire, alarm, safety and community organization personnel to receive and exchange information related to security, vandalism, crimes, investigations, repairs, school activities and safety issues;.
  • Effectively communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.  
  • Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their Principal, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation. 
 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Clear understanding of the urgency, value, and intensity of working with high school scholars. 
  • Flexibility, passion, self-motivation, and commitment are essential. 
  • Strong knowledge of PC systems and knowledge of cutting edge and computer based personalized learning and enrichment programming.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others. 
  • Experience as a teaching assistant, guest teacher or program facilitator. 
  • Familiarity with diverse learning styles and instruction styles
 

School Safety Coordinator

  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and procedures.  
  • Knowledge of security measures and safety procedures. 
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned duties.  
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills sufficient to deal with normal and possible confrontational situations. 
  • Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR and safety practices.  
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.  
  • Ability to stay calm and react appropriately in unusual or emergency situations.  
  • Ability to diffuse situations calmly and with authority.  
  • Ability to exercise strict confidentiality of campus and scholar issues.  
  • Ability to think clearly and take effective action quickly in an emergency.  
  • Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with scholars and the general public.  
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.  
  • Ability to work cooperatively with scholars, the general public, district personnel and law enforcement agencies with poise and consistency.  
 

  Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)
 

  Experience
      Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred
