Position Overview
As a Special Education Teacher at ARLCS, you will provide individualized instruction and support services to scholars with diverse learning needs. You will collaborate with general education teachers, families, and support staff to ensure every scholar receives a high-quality education tailored to their unique strengths and challenges.
Scope of Work & Responsibilities
Design and deliver IEP-aligned instruction to scholars with disabilities in both inclusive and resource settings
Develop, implement, and maintain compliant Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with IDEA and Arkansas state guidelines
Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and provide accommodations and supports
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, behavior data, and service delivery
Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, multidisciplinary teams, and staff professional development
Manage and support paraprofessionals and related service providers as part of the IEP team
Create a supportive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters scholar growth, independence, and a love for learning
Promote social-emotional wellness and positive behavior intervention strategies
Comply with federal, state, and local mandates regarding special education services
Qualifications
Required:
Valid Arkansas teaching license with Special Education (K–12) endorsement
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
Working knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and progress monitoring
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field
Experience working in charter schools or diverse urban school environments
Familiarity with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and functional behavior assessments (FBAs)
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to use data to drive instruction and intervention
